Seeking students/youth 16-29 years of age for
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT 2008
METIS INTERPRETER-CAMPGROUND ATTENDANT
Métis Local 845 of Rocky Mountain House
The position is for 40 hours per week
May-Sept
Consideration will be given to Part-time position until after finals for current High School students, then Full-time.
Location:
Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, Metis Interpretive Program
The Interpreter/Park Attendant will:
- work with Project Coordinator, Parks Canada staff, Métis Local 845 and Friends in the spirit of partnership
- attend pretraining and orientation provided by Parks Canada:
- welcome guests to the Historic Site, orient them to the facilities
and to the Métis/Aboriginal history & culture of the fur trade period.
- deliver cultural programming in conjunction with
Métis craftspersons, elders, and performers,
- undertake maintenance duties at Boat Launch Area, Campground
and Cultural Interpretive Area
- other related duties as assigned by Coordinator or as may arise.
Qualifications:
Willingness to learn and deliver a Métis Cultural/Traditional experience to
general public, tourists and park visitors
- experience in working with the public
- Interest in Fur Trade, traditional Metis skills
- good oral communications skills
- Alberta Drivers Licence (recommended)
- provide a police security clearance check
- good organizational and interpersonal skills, and
- personal initiative, and the ability to work with a minimum of
supervision.
- preference will be given to returning students
