I'm so pleased that I have found this site.I'm fairly new to the area and have not yet been able to get involved with any Local yet. Tommorrow I'm taking my children out to Content Bridge and was pleased to see that is is being reconized as a Metis settlement area. I'm living so close and just heard about the renaming ceremony. Can't wait to get there. any one have any idea's on a first step I can take to get involved, please post. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a michif language workshop in Red Deer last year which was nice as I had been able to attend two others in B.C.

"This fiasco brokered by Trevor, has landed Mr Boucher directly where he deserves to be. A person with absolutely no understanding of the MNA bylaws, or the Provincial Council, or executive committee procedure, may have made an "error". This, however was not an error but an intentional undermining of the Council's process. The agreement between Mr Boucher, and MNC was already inked, while in the background Mr Gladue was scrambing to pull in support of other Council members in order to "fax" a motion in support to the President. The splits over this issue started at Provincial Council level, and have spread throughout the Nation. Its definately taken some time, and President Poitras observed the protocal of not discussing details at the Assembly, or anywhere for that matter, while in the meantime Mr Gladue, has utilized all his resources, churning out Bogus press releases, disguised as official documents, including APTN to present his position, and support of the actions of Mr Boucher and the Metco agreement. I hope President Poitras and the Metis Nation of ALberta do a press release on APTN! I hope Rick and the others finally realize that they have been manipulated for Mr Gladue's political purposes.
Through all of this, President Poitras, has demonstrated courage to maintain her position, her accountability and the transparency of "the elected leaders" has been questioned, and all the while, the issue has been first, before the Judiciary Council, then the Court of Queen's Bench. You are to be commended, President Poitras, for continuing to stand up for Truth."

Local 845 is part of the Metis Nation of Alberta. The Locals in Region 3 who held these meetings did so independently, and the results have been submitted to our Regional President and Regional Council of which the Local Presidents as members. As the President of a Local, an elected position in our Nation, our meetings are held within the guidelines of the Metis Nation of Alberta Bylaws. What I refer to as “self sufficiency” means the need for support for Locals with regard to Administration. Many Locals hold fundraisers, work bingos and casinos in order to keep alive. The needs and seeking of information of Metis Citizens at grassroots levels would be better responded to if a Standard of service could be established for locals across Alberta. The following is a press release distributed by the President of Region 3, re the actions of Mr Chodzicki. Métis Nation of AB Region 3

Public Announcement August 27/2007

I as Métis Nation Region 3 President, with direction and 100% support from my regional council wish to announce that we did not nor do we support the letter that Vice President Joe chodzicki wrote on August 7, 2007 requesting the Resignation ofMNA president Audrey Poitras.

President Poitras has always put the Métis People and the Métis Nation of Alberta first when making decisions on both the provincial and national level. She is respected by both the Federal and Provincial governments, and
over her 11 years as President has made the MNA a well recognized, accountable and respected organization.

It is regretful that Mr. Chodzicki feels he can arbitrarily write a letter using our Region's letterhead and name without the support of myself, or our Local leaders. This is particularly unfortunate because at least one media outlet has already reported that his views are in fact the views of our Region.

A meeting of our Regional Council was held to address this issue, and it is with their 100% support and direction that I make this announcement

I thought your little local was part of a Greater METIS NATION of Alberta, with respect to your Elected Regional President?
"...Local 845 to self sufficiency...," Is your Regional Resident backing your letters that represent your region's people? If so Can you make official your statements and claims, via your Regional incumbent president? I would like to see an Official Press release from him/ her. Last I knew your name "Bev Weber" Was not on the Voting ballot from last election.
If you were soo "true to the MNA" you would respect the Elected officials ability to release news out of their regions.
You cannot stand alone, as you are a group with in a Regional group.

Thanks for checking things out. Please direct others who want information to the Local site. Did you check out the Geneology page? We could be Kin, my mother is a MacDonald. Then again, aren't we "all my relations"
Past president and Local Elder Dee Johnston took the training for Membership, processed over 100 memberships successfully, and we at the Local level assist potential members to research their roots.
Clare, I will be posting a picture that was taken at the signing of our Agreement with Parks Canada to deliver the Metis Interpretive Program at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, and yes I will be in it.

As Chair for Local 845, I must acknowledge the support of my Board of Directors, and the wisdom of our Elder in the journey of Local 845 to self sufficiency, as we continue our mission to inform Metis and connect them to the services they need.

Thanks for the backgrounder. I wish someone was doing this in Edmonton. I will keep watching Local 845 for information. I just want to know what is going on and I don't like being viewed as in someone's camp because I question things. I still have major problems with the registry, but I will work dilligently to make everyone understand that there are many researcherss who consider the definition as it is being interpreted to be too narrow.

in regards to the numbers from Rocky Mountain House and Medicine Hat that voted to remove Joe Chodzicki and Trevor Gladue from office, I have the results from the last election that put them in power in the first place.

Rocky had 15 voters come out to the 2005 elections:

6 votes Trevor Gladue
9 votes Ephram Bouvier

10 votes Joe Chodzicki
5 votes Arlene Fraser

Medicine Hat had 25 voters come out to the 2005 elections:

14 votes Trevor Gladue
11 votes Ephram Bouvier

16 votes Joe Chodzicki
9 votes Arlene Fraser

So now three years later, we have the following results:

Rocky Mountain House had 14 voters come out to 21 day meeting to remove Trevor Gladue and Joe Chodzicki from office:

10 votes in favour of removing Trevor Gladue; 4 against

11 votes in favour of removing Joe Chodzicki; 3 against

Medicine Hat had 31 voters come out to their 21 day posted meeting (as chair, I could not cast my ballot, but if I could it would have been in favour of removal for both):

29 votes in favour of removing Trevor Gladue; 1 against

29 votes in favour of removing Joe Chodzicki; 1 against

Is it voter apathy, sure it is; mostly in my community people care about the services you provide for them, not in the politics of the Nation. Sad but true.
