METIS LOCAL 845  & Alberta Foundation for the Arts

We have had fluctuating numbers for the Metis jigging instruction, averaging 9 children per weekly lesson.  Over the summer, the group will be meeting once a month.  We hope to take the “Rocky Metis Dancers” to the MNA Provincial Assembly in Red Deer, August 8th-10th to possibly perform, but definitely see other Dance Troupes in action.  The participants, as of the end of lessons in June are, Tanner Cardinal, Kyla Weber, Jessica Brown, Brandon Mayhew, Seth Fay, Noah Fay, Ryder Gladue, Emma Redbear and Victoria Redbear.

5 of the group performed at the National Aboriginal Day celebration in Rocky Mountain House, on June 19th 2008.  They also performed at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site on Canada Day.  Congratulations on your progress so far, and regular weekly sessions will resume at the start of the 2008/2009 school year!
